The Easter season is a time for reflection and committing to the Lord. One of the ways in which we seek to better understand the nature of the cross and Christ’s resurrection is through reading Christian books on Easter that examine the Biblical account and apply it to our lives today. You can find new Easter books each year, but we wanted to share some of our favorites across the decades. We live in a world with seemingly endless entertainment options. Between TV, radio, internet, smartphones, e-readers, Netflix, etc. our minds are constantly being stimulated one way or another. While there can be negative connotations with so much attention-grabbing, the good news is that we have more Christian entertainment available to us today than in any time in history. Who doesn’t love a good motivational sports movie? Between the laughs and moments of triumph you can typically enjoy some good clean family entertainment. The last 20 years or so have given us a new subgenre of Christian sports movies which allow us to experience these same thrills while also taking in some practical Godly wisdom. A film that is a little older than our list, but serves as an important predecessor, is 1981’s “Chariots of Fire.” Depicting the true story of Eric Liddell, this film won several Oscars including Best Picture, Best Screenplay and Best Music (who can forget that song?). Bridging mainstream success and a Christian message, this film helped pave the way for today’s Christian sports movies.

When we think of hymns we often harken back to Victorian England or the American frontier for God-honoring songs that still move us today. Truth be told, the process of writing hymns is one that continues to this day. Although the 18th and 19th centuries feature some of the greatest hymns of all time, the 20th century had its fair share as well. From professional music composers to pastors and even a few laymen, there’s no telling who will come up with the next great song to inspire generations. Here are some of the popular hymn writers of the 1900s.
