As we roll into the holiday season, it’s time to reflect on the things in life that make us thankful. While the top of that list should probably consist of important friendships, family connections, and our personal relationship with the Lord, there are many other things for us to be thankful for this fall. Pumpkin pie, cooler weather, and the changing leaves are popular aspects of the season, but we can also be thankful for things that we enjoy year round. Christian entertainment plays an important part in the lives of believers, be it through books, movies, music, or other content. Here are four reasons why we should all be thankful for Christian entertainment.

As the years roll on, Christian filmmakers are finding it easier to produce theater-quality films that share the truth of the Bible while also telling a compelling story. Recent hits like “War Room” and “God’s Not Dead” show that Christian audiences are hungry for films that highlight and share their values. 2017 brought with it several religious films that told a variety of stories. When it comes to most American holidays, Christians have the opportunity to emphasize the more religious aspects of the season or ignore the festivities altogether. For instance, on the 4th of July we are thankful not only for the people who came before us to create the country but also to God for blessing us with the freedoms that we have. Other holidays, like Flag Day, aren’t taken seriously enough for actual celebration (our apologies to any Flag Day fans). Halloween is in a separate category, though. Even if you strip away any ancient beliefs about the holiday, it is still at its core a day about scaring people, dressing in the newest “sexy” costumes, and engaging in debaucherous activity.

When we talk with Christian friends about the latest books we’ve been reading, names like Mark Batterson, John Piper, and David Platt are often tossed around. We all know that there are countless wonderful books in Christianity that bring additional insight on scripture or help us to understand a contemporary problem in a Biblical way. We often don’t discuss the Christian fiction books we’ve been reading, though. Fictional stories are a great way to pass the time, but they can also teach us something new about God or life that we hadn’t imagined. Jesus did teach in parables after all. We wanted to take a moment to discuss some of the great Christian fiction books to come out in 2017.
