Christian Movies on Netflix: What to Watch

As our entertainment options grow and diversify, there are a lot of Christian families out there wondering how they can stay up to date on what films are good for their family to watch. Fortunately, services like Netflix keep a pretty wide array of genres and titles available for streaming. For the believers out there that use this product, here are a few of our recommendations for Christian movies on Netflix that are worth looking at.

To make things a little simpler for you, we’ve decided to break these films into smaller categories. For example, the Classic Hollywood sub-group may be one that the millennials want to pass over. In all seriousness, we hope you find a couple of faith-based films that become new favorites.

Recent Films - Christian Movies on Netflix

Same Kind of Different as Me

There are a lot of Christian movies on Netflix, but few live action ones that have such a remarkable cast. "Same Kind of Different as Me" is the story of an art dealer who befriends a homeless man and how each affects the other's life. The film stars Oscar winners Renee Zellweger and Jon Voight as well as Oscar nominees Djimon Hounsou and Greg Kinnear.

An Interview with God

A reporter stumbles upon the chance of a lifetime when he has the opportunity to interview a man who claims to be God. Reeling through his own personal tragedies and on the brink of losing it all, the reporter finds there may be a greater purpose to it all. Brenton Thwaites ("Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales") and Oscar nominee David Strathairn ("Lincoln") star.

The Case for Christ

One of the most popular Christian movies on Netflix is this biopic of author Lee Strobel and his search for truth surrounding the story of the Bible. Strobel's books have been instrumental in the area of apologetics and have led a number of people to pursue a life of faith. The film covers his journey from skeptic to believer while working as an investigative journalist, during which time he came to write his bestseller. "The Case for Christ" received the rare blessing of good reviews from secular critics and went on to win the Film Impact Award at the 2017 K-LOVE Fan Awards.

A Question of Faith

How would it challenge your beliefs if you faced the ultimate tragedy? In "A Question of Faith," three families come together under unique circumstances to find what they really believe and just how much faith they have in their principles. It's a moving drama about the curves we experience while walking the straight and narrow path and how those twists can shake us to our core. This 2017 film stars Richard T. Jones, Thomas C. Howell, and Jaci Velasquez.

God's Not Dead: A Light in Darkness

Though it may have been lost in the shuffle of early 2018 thanks to two other Christian films released at the same time ("I Can Only Imagine" and "Paul, Apostle of Christ"), you now have the chance to catch up on the third chapter of the "God's Not Dead" series. Arguably the best film in the bunch, this movie tries to understand a Christian's place in the modern world. Are we supposed to fight fire with fire or embrace forgiveness, no matter the cost? You'll see many of the old faces from previous installments as well as the welcome addition of John Corbett.

God Bless the Broken Road - Christian Movies on Netflix

We all have stories with periods of joy and others filled with sadness. After one woman's life falls apart following the death of her husband, she begins to lose faith in God. Before things get too far gone, however, her community and a new acquaintance revitalize her spirit. "God Bless the Broken Road" is a small film with a big heart starring Lindsay Pulsipher, Robin Givens, Jordin Sparks, and Andrew W. Walker.

Samson

Not all Christian movies on Netflix are sports dramas or films about persecution. "Samson" proved there's room for action in the genre with the life story of one of Israel's great judges. The film was part of a heavy slate of Christian releases in Spring 2018, but you can now see it from your own living room. Billy Zane ("Titanic") and Rutger Hauer ("Blade Runner") are just a few of the names you'll recognize from the impressive cast.

Kids - Christian Movies on Netflix

The Star

This 2013 animated film tells the story of Jesus' birth from the perspective of the animals who were there for it all. While this is clearly a fictional account, since there aren't too many talking animals mentioned in the Bible, "The Star" is a fun take on an old story that you and your kids can enjoy together. Among the talented cast are Zachary Levi, Christopher Plummer, Kelly Clarkson, Patricia Heaton, and more.

Joseph: King of Dreams

Riding off of the success of “The Prince of Egypt,” this other Dreamworks cartoon was quickly greenlit. Covering the story of Joseph, this film dives into his account in Genesis with the added bonus of music and a few laughs. With Ben Affleck and other famous actors voicing the characters, the production is a worthwhile film for you and your kids.

TV & Home Video - Christian Movies on Netflix

The Bible

In 2013, “The Bible” miniseries premiered on the History Channel. The most-watched cable miniseries of that year, it pulled in over 12 million viewers. The series chronicles the Old Testament up to the birth of Jesus. It was followed by the “A.D.” miniseries which you can also find on Netflix. Between these two shows, your family can bring Bible study to life.

VeggieTales - Christian Movies on Netflix

As one of the most beloved Christian animated series of all time, “VeggieTales” has taught kids about Biblical stories like the battle of Jericho as well as a number of important lessons involving original characters. While the entire library of the show’s work doesn’t appear on Netflix, they do have several seasons of the new installation “VeggieTales: In the House.”
